Think about the last time you were at the airport.

Chances are, you were subjected to endless hours of waiting, painfully long security lines, an overbooked aircraft and constant flight modifications.

Yet even as awful as our experiences can be, we rarely think about the countless systems in place that help facilitate these processes and ensure that travel is as organized and scheduled as possible.

After all, it would make sense for airports, airlines, and travel agencies worldwide to interact seamlessly with each other and share essential data such as flight information, passenger details and seat bookings.

That’s where Global Distribution Systems come in.

Global Distribution Systems (GDS) are computerized reservation systems used in the travel industry to book flights, hotels, rental cars, and other travel-related services. In other words, they are essentially large databases providing real-time access to the availability, pricing, and inventory of different travel providers, such as airlines, hotels, and car rental companies.
